Toddler Books: Keeps Little Ones Occupied

Toddlers can be such a delight, especially when their little minds are occupied with on an activity like reading toddler books. Books are wonderful for stimulating a toddler’s mind, and most young children love to cuddle up in a lap and hear a good story. Toddler books help the child to experience the world from the comfort of home, and reading to your child will expand his vocabulary and verbal skills as well as his mind.

Reading Toddler Books to Learn New Words and Ideas

Toddler books teach your child that there is a world beyond his own, with new experiences and adventures to explore. Reading toddler books together will unlock the magic of stories, and characters and fantasies that will help your child to develop a love of reading long before he is reading on his own. Many toddler books will present the toddler with ideas that are familiar to him, and offer simple stories with characters that are easy for your child to recognize.

There are plenty of rhyming books, humorous tales and lullaby stories that will keep a toddlers interest, despite the short attention span that he possesses. As you read to your tot daily, you will learn which stories he finds most exciting, and what length of book is best for keeping his interest. Toddler books should have illustrations that are bright and uncluttered for your tot’s young eyes to take in easily. A toddler will study the pictures in his toddler books, and may even try to read the pictures as you go through the story a few times.

Finding Good Toddler Books to Read with your Child

A good toddler book will be able to sustain the toddler’s attention for the entire story, and will be one that your child will want to read again and again. Some toddler books are made out of cloth, vinyl or durable cardboard for little hands to read easily. Some will provide flaps that hide new pictures, or illustrations that pop up when the page is turned. Toddler books that contain rhymes or short repetitive words and phrases are also good choices to read to your child. There are so many popular classics for young children, such as “Pat the Bunny”, “Goodnight Moon”, and “Guess how Much I Love you”. Once you and your child begin reading toddler books together, you will never get tired of finding new stories and poems to tickle your fancy.
