How New Mamas Can Take Time for Themselves... and Enjoy It!
Being a new mother can sometimes be a stressful endeavor. Sometimes you may start to feel as though you never have
any time for yourself. With the constant demands of a new baby, it can sometimes be difficult to take a little time
for yourself. Your body and your sanity however, do require a little bit of "me" time. Here are a few tips to help
you get a little mommy time, and help relieve a little stress.
Take a bath. When baby is napping, or if your spouse or partner is home and can watch the baby for a little
while, take a nice relaxing bath. Make it completely uxorious by adding bubbles and candles, with your favorite
music in the background. This will not only help emotionally by providing a little bit of time for yourself, but
can also help physically by relieving muscle aches, pains and strains caused by constantly being on the go.
Read a book. If you enjoy reading, a little time with a book can work wonders for relieving some stress and
provide you with time all to yourself. You can read a book while baby is napping, or if there is someone else
around that can watch the baby, you can read a book while taking a bath or relaxing in the sun on the patio.
Watch a movie. Lose yourself in a good movie for a few hours. This too can be done while the baby is asleep,
or even quietly playing. By just simply sitting and doing nothing but watching a movie, you can provide yourself
with a little pleasure by doing something just for you. Even better, if you can find a baby-sitter, go to a movie
theater and enjoy a little mommy time.
Hire a baby-sitter. By asking around, you can more than likely find a baby-sitter that comes highly
recommended by someone. You can even ask friends or family members to watch the baby for a few hours, so that you
can do something just for you. Make sure that it is someone that you completely trust, so that you can thoroughly
enjoy yourself, and not spend your free time worrying. Go shopping, go to a movie or even simply take a walk in the
park. The actual act of just getting away by yourself will provide a great deal of stress relief no matter what you
are doing. Even if you are breast feeding, you can still get away for a few hours in between feedings.
Share the responsibility. Make sure that you and your spouse or partner share the responsibility of caring
for the baby. This allows both of you to have a little free time to yourselves. Neither one of you should have the
sole responsibility of caring for your child. You not only need time together, but time to yourselves as well. By
working together to care for your baby, you can both get the stress relief that you need.
The most important thing to remember is that you should not feel guilty about needing some time to yourself. Going
out and getting away for a few hours does not make you a bad mother. In fact, it will help to make you an even
better mother, because you will be less stressed and much more happy. The demands of being a new mother and running
a household can break you down quickly, so it is very important that you do whatever you can to help relieve a
little stress. Taking a little mommy time can help immensely. Just go out, do whatever you want, and enjoy
yourself!
