Baby Proof: What to Look for in the Home Before Baby Starts
Walking
The arrival of a baby is always characterized by joy and happiness in the family. From the parents, to their
friends and relatives, there is usually joy and happiness written all over their faces. In fact, in the African
setting, there is singing, eating and drinking whenever a baby is born. These amazing celebrations show how
momentous the arrival of a new baby can be. However as a baby grows by the day, there are many things to be put in
mind, in the grooming of a baby from the time the baby starts to eat to the time he start to sit, and crawl, even
to the time he starts to walk. They are all very important and paramount safety tips to be adhered and put in mind
by the parents.
Babies are known to be agile and always in a haste when learning new things especially in learning to walk. This
however leads to the issue of what to be on a lookout for before baby starts walking. There are many things to be
on a lookout for when a baby start walking and they are many, below are some of them; (1) Installation of Security
gadgets (2) Putting away dangerous materials (3) Covering of all electrical outlets
Installation of Security gadgets: There should be the installation of security gadgets in your house as your baby
starts walking. One example is installation of smoke detectors in every room of the house especially in the
kitchen. This is paramount in case of fire, of course. So, if the baby is in the room and the detector goes off,
then the parent will be able to remove the child from the room. Bumpers used on sharp edges of tables are also a
good investment for parents. The bumpers can be used to protect the baby from falling and injuring themselves on
sharp edges of tables and other furniture, as babies are prone to falling.
Putting away dangerous materials: This aspect of what to look for in the house before the baby starts walking is
very important. It is widely known that baby’s are very adventurous, as they tend to move to every part of the
house. If unrestricted the baby might get to the places that are not meant for them. Put away and properly store
all sharp objects especially knives and razors. Install security latches on cabinets, as this would not make them
easily accessible to all objects in the cabinet
Covering of all Electrical outlets: There should be 100 percent attention given to this area by the parents, as
this should be highly attended to, and electrical outlets are the most accessible dangerous items for a walking
toddler. As babies are very curious, they will almost always stick their fingers into electrical outlets. It's
common knowledge that electrical sockets are dangerous and may lead to electrocution or even death, which can
devastate a family. So, it is wise and a common precaution to cover electrical outlets.
Baby's first steps can be an important event in a baby's and their parent’s life. A baby on the move can also be a
hectic time for parents, as they must watch the baby's every move. To make this time less stressful and safer for
the baby, it's important for parents to take the proper steps to baby proof their home. Baby proofing can prove to
be a good move for the parents and the baby so the worry of a walking baby can be minimized by safety measures
taken by the parents. Babies can be active and sometimes they need the gentle care that only their parents can
provide.
